Warehouse Temperature Mapping – Book Your Engineer Visit for Summer 2025

May 10

Our Validation Engineers are looking forward to 1st June 2025 for the start of Summer 2025 Warehouse mapping season.

Typically warehouses are mapped in meteorological Summer and Winter and in 2025 for the northern hemisphere those dates fall between:

  • Summer Mapping 1st June – 31st August 2025
  • Winter Mapping 1st Dec 2025 – 28th Feb 2026

Warehouse Temperature Mapping - do you need to map humidity?

Temperature and humidity mapping validates that your warehouse can maintain required storage conditions across all zones. Most ambient warehouses operate between 15°C to 25°C. You may also have some products or materials that require relative humidity (RH) control.

If your products specify storage humidity conditions, you must include humidity mapping in your validation. At Thermal Compliance, we use Vaisala VL-2000-20R high-accuracy temperature and humidity sensors – ensuring reliable, GxP-compliant results.

How many sensors do you need to map a warehouse?

The number of sensors to map a warehouse is dependent on its design, layout, heating, cooling, orientation, storage locations, Product storage etc. So we recommend a compressive review of the space.

For new clients, we offer a free site visit to understand your warehouse layout and environmental factors. A site assessment helps:

  • Identify hot and cold spots

  • Assess RH variation risks

  • Recommend accurate sensor placement

  • Determine mapping duration

What happens during a site visit?

Warehouse temperature mapping isn't just placing sensors evenly across a space. We assess:

  • Warehouse layout and racking (height, type, location)

  • North and South facing walls

  • Windows and skylights

  • Ventilation, HVAC and airflow

  • Cold stores, chillers, or freezers within the space

  • Loading bays and external doorways

  • Heaters and their orientation

  • Product receiving temperature – ambient or controlled?

Understanding these variables ensures meaningful and compliant sensor placement.

How  long should you map your warehouse?

Mapping duration should reflect how your warehouse operates. Factors we assess:

  • Is the facility operational 24/7?

  • What are the shift patterns?

  • Does personnel movement affect conditions?

In most cases, a 7-day mapping duration is best practice, capturing typical use patterns across the week.
