Sensor Response Time Testing

Testing performed to EN 60584:2013 and  to ensure sensors used for Porous Load Autoclave Validation are compliant to EN285:2015.

Autoclave Validation

Sensor Response Time for Porous Load Autoclave Validation

EN285:2015 Requires that temperature probes used in porous autoclave validation have a response time Ꚍ90 of ≤5s (Section 23.33.1.1). At Thermal Compliance we have developed a test rig in order to perform Response Time testing for your systems.

Thermal Compliance is an independent validation service provider. We can perform testing on your dataloggers to ensure your systems are compliant with EN285. We perform Response Time testing in triplicate on each sensor type to ensure. The test method for this process is detailed in EN 60584-1:2013.

Why is Response Time Important?

Response time is the time a sensor takes to record a change in temperature. Fast response times are extremely important for critical systems like Autoclaves, where slow response times could mask issues with the sterilisation process.

What causes slow Response Time?

The construction of the probe can significantly impact the response time of the sensor. The thickness of the probe sheath and any air gaps in its construction will slow the response time.

A good example of delayed response time is a buffered probe in a freezer. A monitoring probe may be placed in Glycol, which will buffer the sensor and therefore delay any alarms.

How can we help?

We can provide independent response time data for your dataloggers. We perform the testing in water as defined in EN 60584-1:2013. We can perform testing to your requirements however we normally recommend each sensor is tested in triplicate. We provide a summary report with the test results detailed and the raw data attached.

If you would like to know more about the testing please contact us and one of our engineers will be happy to help.

Thermocouple Response Time Requirements

Requirements for test Thermocouples are also detailed in EN285:2015, which states that they must comply with one of the test tables of Tolerance  Class 1 detailed in EN 60584:2013. Thermocouples must have a response time Ꚍ90 of ≤5s (Section 23.33.1.1).

We perform response time testing for thermocouples, if you would like to know more about how we can help please contact us.
